The Water Services Association of Malawi (WASAMA) is dedicated to advancing water supply and sanitation services across Malawi. Full Member
- Eligibility: Any autonomous water supply and sanitation regulatory body that subscribes to and ratifies the WASAMA Constitution.
- Requirements: Payment of a one-off membership fee and annual subscription as prescribed.
- Benefits:
- Voting rights at the Annual General Meeting.
- Eligibility to serve on appointed committees and hold office.
- Host the Annual General Meeting.
- Participate in all strategic plan activities.
- Access to all WASAMA documents and publications.
Types of Membership
Associate Member
- Eligibility: Any government department undertaking water supply and sanitation regulatory activities.
- Requirements: Payment of a one-off membership fee and annual subscription as prescribed.
- Benefits:
- Serve on appointed committees.
- Host an Annual General Meeting.
- Participate in some strategic plan activities.
- Access to selected WASAMA documents and publications.
- Restrictions: No voting rights at the Annual General Meeting or eligibility to hold office.
Types of Membership
Affiliate Member
- Eligibility: Any other regulatory partner identified by the Annual General Meeting, not necessarily a water supply and sanitation regulatory body.
- Requirements: Payment of a one-off membership fee and annual subscription as prescribed.
- Benefits:
- Participate in some strategic plan activities.
- Access to selected WASAMA documents and publications.
- Restrictions: Cannot host the Annual General Meeting, serve on committees, vote, or hold office.
Types of Membership
Individual Member
- Eligibility: Any Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) practitioner with at least five years of experience in the sector.
- Requirements: Former WSS regulatory institution or utility staff not in active service within one and a half years of applying.
- Benefits:
- Participate in WASAMA conferences, webinars, and selected knowledge exchanges.
- Co-opted in WASAMA assignments such as surveys, consultancies, and training.
- Access to WASAMA information and publications at no cost.
- Restrictions: Cannot serve on committees, vote, or hold office.
Types of Membership
Observers
- Eligibility: Any institution or person invited or applying to attend the Annual General Meeting.
- Duration: Observer status is limited to three consecutive Annual General Meetings.
- Benefits:
- Participate in Annual General Meetings.
- Access to selected WASAMA documents and publications.
- Restrictions: Must apply for appropriate membership after three meetings or cease participation.

Application Process
To apply for membership, submit a letter to the Executive Secretary of the WASAMA Regulators Association Secretariat at any time, stating:
- Full names and the institution applying.
- Regulatory scope and mandate.
- Organizational structure and legal provision for the mandate.
- Type of membership sought.
